No Country for Old Men is a 2007 American neo-Western crime thriller film written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, based on Cormac McCarthy’s 2005 novel of the same name. Starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin, the film is set in the desert landscape of 1980 West Texas.

While out hunting, Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) finds the grisly aftermath of a drug deal. Though he knows better, he cannot resist the cash left behind and takes it with him. The hunter becomes the hunted when a merciless killer named Chigurh (Javier Bardem) picks up his trail. Also looking for Moss is Sheriff Bell (Tommy Lee Jones), an aging lawman who reflects on a changing world and a dark secret of his own, as he tries to find and protect Moss.

No Country for Old Men” is as good a film as the Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan, have ever made, and they made “Fargo.” It involves elements of the thriller and the chase but is essentially a character study, an examination of how its people meet and deal with a man so bad, cruel and unfeeling that there is simply no comprehending him. Chigurh is so evil, he is almost funny sometimes. “He has his principles,” says the bounty hunter, who has knowledge of him.

This classic noir film offers us one of the finest film from the Masters of contemporary cinema,Coen brothers..I am still in the awe of narrative and analogy expertly used by these terrific filmmakers. Infact the opening voice over with sheer precision of veteran Tommy Lee Jones is a lesson for young actors. Javier Bardem literally takes your breath away by his weirdo hair cut and spine chilling Anton Chigurh. In this towering performances we vividly remember Josh Bolun by his impeccable role. It will be incomplete to end without the mention of legendary Roger Deakins for the power of visual, bleak , stark and giving you the feel of that rigid terrain. A must watch for the sheer power of cinema. Go grab your DVD and see or rather feel, understand and analysis this best of cinema.
